Windows Mobile 6.5 System Font Size Settings
Windows Mobile 6.5 allowed users to natively adjust core display typography using an integrated text scaling feature found within the operating system settings. This setting adjusted text legibility across native menus, dialog boxes, and built-in productivity applications using a standard five-point slider.
To adjust system font sizes natively in Windows Mobile 6.5, users navigated to Start > Settings > System > Screen and selected the Text Size tab.
The screen presented a horizontal slider with five discrete size increments:
- Smallest
- Smaller
- Medium (the default setting)
- Larger
- Largest
Moving the slider dynamically changed a sample preview paragraph on the screen, showing how standard system text would render before applying the change.
Scope of the Native Font Adjustment
The changes made via the Text Size slider globally altered the font metrics across native shell elements and core applications, including:
- Standard operating system dialog boxes, alerts, and system prompts.
- Pocket Outlook applications, specifically the message body and list views in Email, SMS/MMS, Contacts, Calendar appointments, and Tasks.
- The native Notes application.
- Standard File Explorer list details and properties.
Exclusions and App-Specific Adjustments
Not all user interface elements responded to the global Text Size slider:
- Internet Explorer Mobile: Web browsing text was handled separately within the browser settings under Menu > View > Text Size, which offered its own five-tier scale (Smallest, Smaller, Medium, Larger, Largest) or zoom levels, independent of system-wide scaling.
- The "Titanium" Today Screen: The default Windows Mobile 6.5 sliding panel home screen used fixed layout definitions written in CPR/XML files and did not dynamically resize with the text slider.
- Third-Party Applications: Programs using custom rendering engines, absolute pixel values, or hardcoded font metrics bypassed the native Windows CE system font APIs and remained unaffected.
