PowerPoint Mobile Features in Windows Mobile 6.5

PowerPoint Mobile on Windows Mobile 6.5 provided mobile professionals with a lightweight tool designed primarily for reviewing, practicing, and delivering presentations on the go. While it lacked the content creation and editing capabilities found in desktop versions, it offered a robust viewing engine tailored to the hardware constraints of late-2000s smartphones, complete with external display output, animation playback, and speaker note access.

Full-Screen Slide Show Mode

PowerPoint Mobile ran presentations in a dedicated full-screen mode that adapted slides to the mobile device’s screen resolution (typically QVGA, VGA, or WVGA). Users could navigate through slides sequentially using touch gestures, on-screen tap zones, or the hardware directional pad (D-pad) and navigation keys common on Windows Mobile devices. A direct navigation menu was also available, allowing users to jump directly to any specific slide in the deck.

Read-Only Viewing Experience

Unlike Word Mobile and Excel Mobile on Windows Mobile 6.5, PowerPoint Mobile was strictly a presentation viewer. Users could not create new presentations, insert shapes, edit text, or alter formatting directly on the device. This read-only design ensured that slide formatting, embedded assets, and layouts created on desktop versions of PowerPoint remained intact and unaltered by mobile limitations.

Animation and Transition Support

The application included native support for standard slide transitions and basic text animations. While advanced or resource-heavy effects were either simplified or replaced with standard cuts to ensure smooth playback on slower mobile processors, simple entrance and exit effects functioned reliably during slide shows.

Speaker Notes Integration

A dedicated feature for presenters was the ability to view speaker notes. Users could toggle between the full slide view and the speaker notes pane, allowing them to review key talking points, presentation scripts, or reminders before walking into a meeting or during rehearsal.

External Display and Projector Output

When paired with compatible Windows Mobile 6.5 hardware featuring TV-out ports, mini-HDMI, or specialized presentation adapters, PowerPoint Mobile allowed users to output presentations directly to an external monitor or projector. In this configuration, the device acted as a handheld presentation remote, advancing slides on the big screen while displaying slide navigation or notes on the phone's screen.

Wide File Format Compatibility

PowerPoint Mobile supported legacy .ppt files as well as modern OpenXML-based .pptx presentations. It could also open files saved directly as PowerPoint Show files (.pps and .ppsx), launching them automatically into full-screen presentation mode upon opening.
