Shortcut to Toggle Stage Manager in macOS 13

While macOS 13 (Ventura) introduces Stage Manager to organize open windows and apps, Apple does not provide a default global keyboard shortcut to toggle the feature on and off. However, you can quickly activate it through the Control Center, pin it to your menu bar, or create your own custom keyboard shortcut in a few quick steps.

How to Toggle Stage Manager from the Menu Bar

The built-in method to toggle Stage Manager uses the macOS interface:

  1. Click the Control Center icon in the upper-right corner of your menu bar (the two toggle switches icon).
  2. Click the Stage Manager tile to turn the feature on or off.
  3. To make access even faster, open System Settings > Control Center, locate Stage Manager, and select Show in Menu Bar. This places a dedicated Stage Manager icon directly in your top menu bar for one-click toggling.

How to Create a Custom Keyboard Shortcut for Stage Manager

If you want a dedicated keyboard shortcut to switch Stage Manager on and off instantly, you can create one using the native macOS Shortcuts app:

  1. Open the Shortcuts app from your Applications folder or Spotlight.
  2. Click the + (Add) icon in the top toolbar to create a new shortcut.
  3. In the search field on the right sidebar, search for Stage Manager.
  4. Double-click or drag the Set Stage Manager action into the main editor window.
  5. In the action box, click the word Turn and change it to Toggle.
  6. Open the Shortcut Details inspector panel by clicking the information icon (i) in the right sidebar.
  7. Click the Add Keyboard Shortcut button.
  8. Press the key combination you want to assign (for example, Option + Command + S).
  9. Close the Shortcuts app.

Your custom shortcut will now immediately toggle Stage Manager on or off from anywhere in macOS 13.
