Set Up a Web Proxy Server in macOS 13 Ventura
Setting up a proxy server on macOS 13 Ventura routes your web traffic through an intermediary server, helping protect your privacy, bypass regional network restrictions, or access private business networks. This guide walks you through configuring manual or automatic proxy settings using macOS Ventura's redesigned System Settings menu in just a few quick steps.
Step 1: Open Network Settings
- Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen.
- Select System Settings.
- In the left sidebar, click on Network.
Step 2: Select Your Active Connection
- Locate your active internet connection on the right panel (typically Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
- Click the Details... button next to your connected network.
Step 3: Configure Proxy Details
- In the pop-up window, click the Proxies tab in the sidebar.
- Choose the type of proxy protocol required by your provider or
network administrator:
- Web Proxy (HTTP): For standard unencrypted web traffic.
- Secure Web Proxy (HTTPS): For encrypted web traffic.
- SOCKS Proxy: Commonly used for broader application traffic routing.
- Auto Proxy Discovery or Automatic Proxy Configuration: If your network uses a PAC (Proxy Auto-Config) file URL.
- Toggle the switch next to your selected protocol to the On position.
- Enter the proxy Server address (IP or hostname) and Port number in the corresponding fields.
- If your proxy server requires authentication:
- Toggle the switch for Proxy server requires password.
- Enter your Username and Password.
Step 4: Save and Apply Changes
- Click OK in the bottom-right corner of the window to confirm your settings.
- Click Apply if prompted.
Your web traffic is now routed through the specified proxy server. To verify the setup, open a web browser and visit an IP lookup website to confirm that your IP address matches the proxy server's location. To disable the proxy at any time, return to the Proxies tab and toggle the switches back to the Off position.
