Reset Printing System in macOS 13 Ventura

Stuck print jobs on macOS 13 (Ventura) can halt your workflow by preventing new documents from printing and causing your printer queue to become unresponsive. This guide provides a straightforward method to reset the printing system on macOS 13, which purges all stuck print queues, resets printer preferences, and restores normal printing functionality on your Mac.

What Happens During a Reset

Resetting the printing system deletes all print jobs in the queue, removes all printers and scanners from your list, and restores printing preferences to their factory defaults. You will need to re-add your printer once the process is complete.

Steps to Reset the Printing System in macOS 13

  1. Open System Settings
Click the Apple menu () in the top-left corner of your screen and select System Settings.

  2. Navigate to Printers & Scanners
Scroll down the left sidebar and click Printers & Scanners.

  3. Trigger the Reset Option
In the list of printers on the right, hold down the Control key and click (or right-click) on any printer listed.

  4. Select Reset Printing System
Click Reset Printing System… from the contextual menu that appears.

  5. Confirm and Authenticate
A confirmation dialog will appear warning that all printers, scanners, and jobs will be removed. Click Reset. When prompted, enter your Mac administrator username and password to proceed.

Re-Adding Your Printer

After the reset finishes, your printer list will be empty.

  1. Ensure your printer is powered on and connected via USB or to the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. In the Printers & Scanners menu, click the Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax… button.
  3. Select your printer from the list, allow macOS to automatically detect the software or driver, and click Add.

Once re-added, send a test document to ensure the print queue operates normally.
