How to Undo Send Email in Mail App on macOS 13

Apple's macOS 13 (Ventura) includes a built-in feature in the Mail app that lets you recall an email immediately after sending it. This guide covers the exact steps to quickly unsend an outgoing message and explains how to adjust the time window allowed for retracting emails so you have more time to catch mistakes.

How to Unsend an Email in macOS 13 Mail

  1. Send your email as you normally would by clicking the Send button (the paper airplane icon).
  2. Look at the bottom of the sidebar on the left side of the Mail window.
  3. Click the Undo Send button that appears.

Once clicked, the email will not be delivered to the recipient. Instead, the message will immediately reopen in a standard compose window, allowing you to edit the text, fix attachments, change recipients, or delete the draft entirely.

Note: The "Undo Send" button only remains visible for a brief period before disappearing, after which the email is permanently sent.

How to Adjust the Undo Send Delay

By default, the Mail app gives you a 10-second window to recall an email. You can extend this window up to 30 seconds or turn the feature off completely.

  1. Open the Mail app on your Mac.
  2. Click Mail in the top menu bar and select Settings... (or press Command + ,).
  3. Click the Composing tab at the top of the settings window.
  4. Locate the Undo send delay drop-down menu near the bottom.
  5. Select your preferred delay time:
    • Off (Sends emails instantly without the option to unsend)
    • 10 seconds (Default setting)
    • 20 seconds
    • 30 seconds (Provides the maximum time to recall an email)
  6. Close the Settings window to save your changes.
