How to Enable Low Power Mode on macOS 13

Low Power Mode on macOS 13 (Ventura) optimizes your MacBook's performance to extend battery life by reducing system clock speeds, dimming display brightness slightly, and pausing background activities. This guide provides a straightforward walkthrough on how to locate the Battery settings in the macOS 13 System Settings menu and activate Low Power Mode according to your preferences.

Steps to Turn On Low Power Mode

  1. Open System Settings
Click the Apple menu () in the top-left corner of your screen and select System Settings.

  2. Navigate to Battery
In the left sidebar, scroll down and click Battery.

  3. Configure Low Power Mode
Look for the Low Power Mode option on the right side of the window. Click the pop-up menu next to it and choose one of the following settings:

    • Never: Low Power Mode remains turned off at all times.
    • Always: Keeps Low Power Mode active whether your Mac is plugged in or running on battery.
    • Only on Battery: Automatically enables Low Power Mode when your MacBook is unplugged to conserve energy.
    • Only on Power Adapter: Engages Low Power Mode only while connected to a charger (useful if using a low-wattage power adapter).

Once you make your selection, the setting applies immediately. You can revert to default performance at any time by returning to this menu and selecting Never.
