How to Check Battery Health on macOS 13 Ventura
This guide provides a quick overview of how to locate and understand your MacBook's battery health statistics in macOS 13 Ventura. With the redesign of System Preferences into System Settings, the process for checking maximum capacity and battery condition has changed slightly, but the essential metrics remain easily accessible through the dedicated Battery menu.
How to Access Battery Health
- Click the Apple menu () in the top-left corner of your screen.
- Select System Settings from the dropdown menu.
- In the sidebar on the left, scroll down and click Battery.
- In the main panel, locate the Battery Health section.
- Click the Info icon (the small "i" inside a circle) next to the current status (such as "Normal").
Understanding the Statistics
Once you click the Info icon, a pop-up window will display your battery’s vital metrics:
- Battery Condition: This indicates whether your battery is functioning properly. A status of Normal means the battery operates as expected. A status of Service Recommended means the battery can hold less charge than when it was new or is not functioning normally, suggesting it may need replacement soon.
- Maximum Capacity: This displays your battery's current capacity relative to when it was brand new. As a chemical battery ages, this percentage gradually decreases, leading to fewer hours of use between charges.
- Optimized Battery Charging: Located in the same panel, this feature learns your daily charging routine to reduce battery wear and extend its overall lifespan by delaying charging past 80% until you need to use it on battery power.
