Arrange Multi-Monitor Layouts on macOS 13

Arranging multiple monitors in macOS 13 Ventura is essential for creating a seamless dual- or triple-screen workspace that matches the physical placement of your displays. This guide provides a direct, step-by-step walkthrough on how to navigate the redesigned System Settings interface, access the display arrangement screen, reorder your monitors, configure alignment, and select your primary display.

Step 1: Open Display Settings

  1. Click the Apple menu () in the top-left corner of your screen.
  2. Select System Settings.
  3. In the left sidebar, scroll down and click Displays.

Step 2: Open the Arrangement Window

Once in the Displays panel, macOS will show previews of all connected monitors at the top of the window.

  1. Click the Arrange… button located just below the display previews. (Note: The "Arrange…" button only appears when two or more displays are connected and recognized by your Mac.)

Step 3: Rearrange Your Monitors

A pop-up window will appear displaying miniature representations of your connected screens.

  1. Click and drag any monitor icon to match its actual physical position on your desk (left, right, above, or below).
  2. Move your cursor between the screens in the preview window to test the transition edge.
  3. Ensure the top or bottom edges align properly to prevent your mouse pointer from catching when moving between screens of different sizes or resolutions.

Step 4: Set the Primary Display

The primary display holds your desktop icons and the primary menu bar by default.

  1. Locate the thin white bar displayed across the top of one of the screen icons in the Arrangement window.
  2. Click and drag the white menu bar to the display you wish to assign as your primary screen.

Step 5: Configure Mirroring (Optional)

If you want the monitors to show identical content rather than an extended workspace:

  • Hold down the Option key and drag one display icon directly on top of another to mirror them.
  • Alternatively, exit the Arrangement window, click your secondary display under the main Displays menu, and change the Use as dropdown menu to Mirror for [Display Name].

Step 6: Save Your Changes

Once your monitors are positioned to match your physical desk setup, click Done in the bottom-right corner of the arrangement window. The changes take effect immediately.
