Adjust Mouse Tracking and Scrolling Speed in macOS 13

macOS 13 Ventura introduced a redesigned System Settings app that replaced the traditional System Preferences. If your cursor moves too slowly or your scroll wheel feels unresponsive, you can quickly customize both mouse tracking and scrolling speeds through the dedicated Mouse settings pane. This guide walks you through the exact steps to locate these controls and fine-tune your mouse behavior.

How to Change Mouse Tracking and Scrolling Speeds

  1. Click the Apple menu () in the top-left corner of your screen.
  2. Select System Settings from the dropdown menu.
  3. In the left sidebar, scroll down and click Mouse.
  4. Locate the Tracking speed slider. Drag the slider to the right to make the pointer move faster across the screen, or to the left to slow it down.
  5. Locate the Scrolling speed slider. Drag it to the right to increase how fast content scrolls when using the scroll wheel or gesture surface, or to the left to decrease it.

Additional Mouse Options

While in the Mouse settings menu, you can also adjust related controls:

  • Natural scrolling: Toggle this switch off if you prefer traditional scrolling, where moving the wheel down moves the page down.
  • Secondary click: Set your preferred method for right-clicking (click right side, click left side, or off).

Changes apply immediately, allowing you to test the cursor responsiveness in real time until it matches your preferences. Once configured, close the System Settings window.
