Add Modifier Keys to Hot Corners in macOS 13

macOS 13 Ventura allows you to assign custom modifier keys to Hot Corners to prevent triggering actions accidentally. By holding down the Command, Option, Control, or Shift keys—or any combination of them—while configuring a corner, you ensure the shortcut only activates when that specific key combination is pressed as your cursor hits the screen's corner.

How to Configure Modifier Keys for Hot Corners

  1. Open the Apple menu () in the top-left corner of your screen and select System Settings.
  2. In the sidebar, click Desktop & Dock.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the right-hand pane and click the Hot Corners... button.
  4. Before clicking any corner's drop-down menu, press and hold your desired modifier key or combination on your keyboard:
    • Command (⌘)
    • Option (⌥)
    • Control (⌃)
    • Shift (⇧)
  5. While holding down the key(s), click the drop-down menu for the specific corner you want to configure. You will see the modifier key symbols appear next to the actions in the list.
  6. Select your preferred action (such as Mission Control, Desktop, or Quick Note).
  7. Release the modifier key and click Done to save your changes.

Once set, moving your mouse cursor to that corner will no longer trigger the assigned action on its own. You must physically hold down the assigned modifier key while moving the pointer into the corner for the action to execute.
