Revoke Guest Access Remotely in iOS 18 Home App

Apple’s iOS 18 introduces dedicated Guest Access controls within the Home app, allowing homeowners to grant, modify, and instantly cancel access to smart home accessories such as smart locks and garage doors. Whether a service provider finishes early or a visitor's stay changes unexpectedly, homeowners can revoke digital credentials and passcodes from anywhere with an active internet connection. This guide outlines the exact steps required to remove or disable guest access remotely using an iPhone.

Requirements for Remote Access Revocation

To revoke access remotely, your smart home must have an active Apple Home hub—such as an Apple TV 4K or HomePod—connected to Wi-Fi and signed into your Apple Account. Your iPhone must also be running iOS 18 or later.

Step-by-Step: Removing a Guest in the Home App

  1. Open the Home App: Launch the Apple Home app on your iPhone.
  2. Access Home Settings: Tap the More button (the circle with three dots) in the top-right corner of the screen, then select Home Settings.
  3. Select Guest Access: Tap the Guest Access menu item.
  4. Choose the Guest: Locate and tap the name of the guest whose credentials you need to revoke.
  5. Delete the Access:
    • Scroll to the bottom of the guest’s profile screen.
    • Tap Remove Guest.
    • Confirm the action when prompted.

Once confirmed, the Home app communicates through your Home Hub to immediately delete the personal entry codes and digital key access from all associated accessories.

Alternative: Temporarily Disabling Access

If you do not want to permanently delete the guest's profile and saved passcodes, you can restrict access temporarily instead:

  1. Navigate to Home Settings > Guest Access and tap the guest's name.
  2. Under the accessory list, toggle off access to individual devices, or tap Schedule to change their allowed access window to an inactive time.
  3. Alternatively, you can disable the Guest Access toggle at the top of the main Guest Access menu to suspend all guest passcodes across your entire home at once.
