iOS 18 Safari Visual Redesign Features
Apple’s iOS 18 introduces significant visual and functional refinements to the Safari web browser, prioritizing streamlined navigation and a clutter-free viewing experience. This update delivers a newly redesigned Page Menu, interactive Distraction Control, an overhauled Reader view with built-in summaries, and smart webpage Highlights designed to surface key information directly within the interface.
Revamped Page Menu
The address bar’s action menu has been consolidated into a cleaner, card-based layout. Instead of navigating long text lists, users now interact with a streamlined panel that groups core utilities—such as Reader mode, translation, privacy reports, font scaling, and extension controls—into distinct, easily accessible visual modules.
Distraction Control
Distraction Control is a visual tool that allows users to manually hide intrusive elements on a webpage, such as sign-in prompts, autoplaying videos, and floating banners. When an element is selected for removal, Safari displays an interactive particle-dissolve animation to confirm that the selected visual component has been eliminated from the page view.
Redesigned Reader Mode
Reader Mode features a visual overhaul focusing on typography and readability. Beyond basic text reformatting, it now includes:
- Table of Contents: Automatically generates a navigable outline for long-form articles.
- AI-Powered Summaries: Places a concise summary card at the very top of the article before the main text begins.
- Refined Themes: Updated font options, background colors, and line-spacing controls.
Smart Highlights
Safari in iOS 18 uses machine learning to detect and visually highlight essential details on a page. When viewing locations, hotels, restaurants, or media, Safari generates contextual cards displaying directions, phone numbers, ratings, or quick links to Apple Music and Apple TV without requiring manual scrolling through the webpage.
Tab and Navigation Polish
The overall browsing chrome receives subtle visual polish, including smoother transition animations when opening tab overviews, cleaner button iconography, and an updated layout for managing Tab Groups.
