iOS 18 Interactive Home Control Widget Sizes

Apple’s iOS 18 expands customization options for smart accessories, allowing users to monitor and trigger HomeKit devices directly from their Home Screen, Lock Screen, and redesigned Control Center. Depending on where you place these interactive controls, iOS 18 offers specific size configurations ranging from single-icon buttons to expanded multi-device panels.

Home Screen Widget Sizes

When adding interactive Home widgets to the Home Screen, you can choose between three standard sizes:

  • Small (2x2): Displays up to four individual accessory toggles or a single featured device with quick-action tap functionality.
  • Medium (2x4): Displays up to eight interactive accessory toggles or scenes across two horizontal rows.
  • Large (4x4): Offers a comprehensive view displaying up to 16 accessory toggles, scenes, or detailed sensor readouts for rooms and climate zones.

(Note: On iPadOS 18, an Extra Large size is also available for extensive setups.)

In iOS 18, you can resize existing Home widgets directly on the Home Screen by entering "Jiggle Mode" (touch and hold the wallpaper) and dragging the resize handle in the corner of the widget, or by long-pressing the app icon to convert it into a widget without opening the widget gallery.

Control Center Interactive Control Sizes

iOS 18 introduces a completely overhauled Control Center that treats controls similarly to widgets. When adding interactive Home controls to the Control Center, you can resize them using the corner adjustment handle into the following formats:

  • 1x1 (Small Circle/Pill): A single compact button for quick toggles, such as turning on a specific light, locking a door, or running a scene.
  • 2x1 (Wide Button): A horizontal pill providing a larger touch target alongside accessory status information.
  • 2x2 (Large Square): A prominent tile designed for complex controls, such as thermostats, multi-light groups, or favorites panels.

Lock Screen Widget Sizes

Interactive smart home widgets placed on the iOS 18 Lock Screen operate in monochromatic styles and are available in two standard sizes:

  • Circular (1x1): A compact single-device status icon or toggle button.
  • Rectangular (2x1): A wider widget displaying accessory status text (e.g., climate temperatures, security system status) with interactive toggle capability.
