iOS 18 Control Center Toggle Size Options

Apple's iOS 18 update introduces a fully customizable, grid-based Control Center that allows users to resize individual controls and toggles. This guide covers the specific dimensions available when scaling up single control toggles, how those size options function on the Control Center grid, and how to adjust them.

Available Toggle Sizes in iOS 18

When editing the iOS 18 Control Center, single controls adhere to an 8-column wide, 4-row tall grid layout per page. Depending on the specific control, scaling up a single toggle provides up to three primary size options:

  • 1x1 (Small / Standard Icon): The default compact size for individual toggles (such as Flashlight, Dark Mode, or Timer). It occupies a single grid slot, appearing as a standard circular icon.
  • 2x1 (Medium / Horizontal Bar): Dragging the resize handle horizontally expands the toggle across two grid columns while maintaining a single row's height. This size provides a wider, pill-shaped button that often displays the control's name alongside its status.
  • 2x2 (Large / Square Block): Dragging the handle both horizontally and vertically enlarges the toggle into a four-slot square. This size offers the largest standard footprint for single toggles, providing an expanded touch target and, in some cases, additional contextual details or quick-access actions.

(Note: Certain system modules, such as the Now Playing card, can expand further to a 4x2 horizontal block, but standard standalone toggles top out at 2x2.)

How to Resize a Control Center Toggle

  1. Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open Control Center.
  2. Tap the + (plus) icon in the top-left corner, or press and hold any empty space, to enter edit mode.
  3. Locate the toggle you wish to resize. A curved adjustment handle will appear in the lower-right corner of the icon.
  4. Drag the handle outward to expand the toggle to the 2x1 or 2x2 size option, or drag it inward to return it to 1x1.
  5. Tap anywhere outside an active control or swipe up from the bottom of the screen to save your layout.
