How to Remove Lock Screen Controls in iOS 18
With the release of iOS 18, Apple allows users to fully customize or completely remove the traditional Flashlight and Camera shortcuts from the Lock Screen. Removing these icons eliminates accidental triggers and creates a cleaner, minimalist display. This guide covers the exact, step-by-step process required to delete both controls from your iPhone Lock Screen.
Step-by-Step Guide to Removing Lock Screen Controls
To completely remove the bottom shortcuts from your Lock Screen, follow these steps:
- Unlock your iPhone: Use Face ID or Touch ID, but do not swipe up to go to the Home Screen. Remain on the Lock Screen.
- Enter Edit Mode: Press and hold anywhere on the Lock Screen wallpaper until the wallpaper gallery appears.
- Select Customize: Tap the Customize button located at the bottom of the screen.
- Choose the Lock Screen: Tap the Lock Screen preview on the left side.
- Delete the Left Control: Tap the gray Minus (–) button directly above the bottom-left icon (usually the Flashlight). The icon will disappear, leaving an empty circle.
- Delete the Right Control: Tap the gray Minus (–) button directly above the bottom-right icon (usually the Camera).
- Save Changes: Tap Done in the top-right corner of the screen.
- Exit Edit Mode: Tap the screen once more to return to your active Lock Screen.
What Happens After Removal
Once both controls are deleted, the bottom corners of your Lock Screen will remain completely blank.
- Prevent Accidental Activations: The flashlight will no longer turn on accidentally in pockets or bags.
- Camera Access Remains Available: Even without the dedicated shortcut icon, you can still access the Camera quickly by swiping left anywhere on the Lock Screen.
- Restoring Controls: If you decide to add controls back later, return to the customize menu and tap the empty Plus (+) circles to select new functions, System toggles, or third-party app shortcuts.
