How to Edit Scheduled Messages in iOS 18
Apple's iOS 18 introduces the ability to schedule texts using the "Send Later" feature in the Messages app. If you need to make changes before a scheduled text goes out, iOS allows you to easily edit the content, modify the delivery time, send it immediately, or delete it entirely without notifying the recipient.
Where Scheduled Messages Appear
When you schedule a message in iOS 18, it does not disappear from view. Instead, it remains docked at the bottom of the conversation thread inside a distinct bubble with a dashed border. Above the bubble, you will see a timestamp indicating when the message is set to be delivered, accompanied by an "Edit" option.
What Happens When You Edit the Message
Tapping Edit above the bubble or long-pressing the scheduled text brings up a context menu with several actions:
- Edit Message: Selecting this re-opens the text field, allowing you to rewrite or fix typos in your message. Once you confirm the changes by tapping the blue checkmark, the updated text replaces the previous draft in the queue.
- Reschedule: If you need to adjust the delivery time, this option lets you pick a new date or hour. The message will remain queued until the new scheduled time arrives.
- Send Message: This bypasses the schedule and delivers the message to the recipient instantly.
- Delete Message: This cancels the scheduled delivery and permanently removes the text.
Recipient Visibility
Because the message has not yet been delivered to the recipient's device, any edits made prior to sending are completely private. Unlike standard messages edited after delivery, an edited scheduled message will not display an "Edited" tag. The recipient receives the finalized version at the designated time, appearing as a standard, newly sent message.
