How Reminders Integrates with Calendar in iOS 18

With the release of iOS 18, Apple has unified its scheduling tools by allowing tasks from the Reminders app to appear directly alongside schedule entries in the Calendar app. This update removes the friction of switching between two separate productivity apps to manage your day. This guide covers how the integration works, how to create and manage reminders inside Calendar, and how to customize your view to keep your schedule organized.

Unified Timeline and Views

In iOS 18, any task in the Reminders app that has an assigned date or time automatically populates in the Calendar app. These tasks appear in Day, Multi-Day, Week, and Month views:

  • Timed Reminders: Tasks set for a specific hour appear directly on the hourly grid alongside scheduled meetings and appointments.
  • All-Day Reminders: Tasks with a due date but no specific time appear in the all-day section at the top of the day view.
  • Visual Distinctions: Reminders retain visual cues from the Reminders app, such as a circular checkbox icon and the custom color associated with the specific list they belong to, making them easily distinguishable from standard calendar events.

Creating Reminders Directly Within Calendar

You no longer need to open the Reminders app to log a new task. The creation process is integrated directly into the Calendar interface:

  1. Tap the + (plus) icon in the top-right corner of the Calendar app.
  2. Select the Reminder tab at the top of the creation screen (next to the "Event" tab).
  3. Enter the title, set a due date and time, assign it to a specific Reminders list, and add tags or priority levels.
  4. Tap Add to save it to both your Calendar view and the native Reminders app.

Interactive Management and Completion

The integration is fully two-way and interactive. When viewing a reminder on the calendar:

  • Complete Tasks: Tap the circular checkbox next to a reminder to mark it as completed instantly. The task will update in real time across both Calendar and Reminders.
  • Edit or Reschedule: Tap a reminder to open its details. You can adjust the time, change the due date, edit notes, or delete the task.
  • Drag and Drop: In Day or Week view, you can tap, hold, and drag a reminder to an open time slot to quickly reschedule it.

Controlling Visibility

If your calendar becomes too cluttered, you can customize which reminders appear:

  1. Tap Calendars at the bottom center of the Calendar app.
  2. Scroll to the Reminders section.
  3. Check or uncheck individual Reminder lists to display only the tasks you want to see, or deselect all of them to hide reminders entirely from the calendar timeline.
