How iOS 18 Shows Reminders in the Calendar App
Apple’s iOS 18 bridges the gap between time management and task tracking by integrating scheduled items from the Reminders app directly into the native Calendar app. This update allows users to view, create, edit, and complete to-do items alongside standard calendar events in a single, unified agenda view, eliminating the need to constantly switch between separate applications.
Unified Timeline and Agenda Display
In iOS 18, any reminder assigned a specific date or time automatically populates in the Calendar app. These items appear across all calendar views, including the Day, Week, Month, and List/Agenda views.
To prevent confusion between events and to-dos, the system visually differentiates them:
- Distinct Icons: Reminders feature a circular checkbox on their left edge, while standard calendar events display solid blocks of color or typical event styling.
- Color Coding: Each scheduled reminder adopts the custom color of the Reminders list it belongs to, making it easy to categorize tasks at a glance.
- Placement: Timed reminders appear at their exact scheduled hour alongside calendar meetings, while all-day reminders sit at the top of the day view in the all-day section.
Marking Tasks Complete Inside Calendar
The integration is fully interactive rather than a read-only sync. Users can tap the circle icon next to any reminder directly within the Calendar app agenda to mark it as complete. Once checked, the task updates immediately across both apps and through iCloud, either disappearing or moving to completed status depending on your viewing preferences.
Creating and Editing Tasks in Calendar
Users no longer need to open the Reminders app to schedule a new task. When tapping the + (Add) button in Calendar, iOS 18 presents a segmented control at the top of the creation sheet with two options: Event and Reminder.
Selecting Reminder lets you:
- Enter a title and notes.
- Assign a due date, time, and recurrence rule.
- Select a specific Reminders list and priority level.
- Add tags or location-based triggers.
Any changes made to existing reminders inside the Calendar app—such as dragging to reschedule a time or modifying details—reflect instantly in the Reminders app.
Customizing Reminders Visibility
If you prefer to keep your agenda uncluttered, iOS 18 provides full control over how reminders appear:
- Open the Calendar app.
- Tap Calendars at the bottom of the screen.
- Scroll down to the Reminders section.
- Toggle individual reminder lists on or off, or deselect the entire category to hide tasks completely from your schedule.
