Sync Shazam History with the Shazam App in iOS 16

Apple’s iOS 16 update introduced a unified synchronization system that connects the system-level Music Recognition tool in Control Center directly with the standalone Shazam application. Prior to this update, songs identified via Control Center were stored in an isolated menu separate from the Shazam app’s library. With iOS 16, Shazam leverages your Apple ID and iCloud to automatically synchronize every identified track between Control Center, Siri, and the main Shazam application across all your devices.

How the Synchronization Works

When you trigger Music Recognition through Control Center in iOS 16, the system records an acoustic fingerprint, queries the Shazam database, and returns the track information. Instead of saving this match solely to a local cache, iOS 16 immediately pushes the result to your Apple ID’s iCloud account.

Because the standalone Shazam application also reads from this same iCloud database, any track identified via Control Center instantly populates within the Shazam app's "My Music" library. The sync is bidirectional: deleting or adding a track in the Shazam app also updates the history list accessible by long-pressing the Control Center tile.

Requirements for Direct Syncing

To ensure your history syncs without issue, specific settings must be enabled:

  1. Updated Software: Your device must run iOS 16 or later, and the standalone Shazam app must be updated to the latest version available on the App Store.
  2. iCloud Permissions: Navigate to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Apps Using iCloud (Show All) and verify that the toggle for Shazam is switched to On.
  3. In-App Sync Setting: Open the Shazam app, swipe up to access My Music, tap the Settings gear icon in the top-left corner, and ensure that iCloud Sync is enabled.

Accessing Your Synced Songs

Once configured, your song history is accessible from two primary locations:

  • Control Center: Long-press the Music Recognition (Shazam) icon in Control Center to view a compact list of your recently identified tracks.
  • Shazam App: Open the Shazam app and navigate to your library. Every song tagged through Siri, Control Center, or the app itself will appear chronologically in your main history list, complete with options to add the tracks to Apple Music or Spotify playlists.
