Send Messages with Siri Without Confirmation in iOS 16
In iOS 16, Apple introduced an update that allows Siri to send text messages immediately without asking for verbal confirmation first. By enabling the "Automatically Send Messages" feature, Siri bypasses the traditional "Do you want to send this?" prompt and instead uses a brief visual and audio countdown timer, giving you a few seconds to review or cancel the message before it is dispatched automatically.
How the Automatic Confirmation Works
When this feature is active, dictating a message via Siri triggers an automated countdown rather than a question.
- Dictation: You instruct Siri to send a text (e.g., "Tell Alex I'm running five minutes late").
- Audio and Visual Feedback: Siri transcribes the message on your screen and displays a small circular countdown timer or clock icon.
- The Cancellation Window: Siri waits approximately five seconds. During this window, you can visually inspect the transcribed text or tap Don't Send / Cancel on the screen. If you are using hands-free controls, you can simply say "Cancel" or "Stop" to halt the transmission.
- Automatic Dispatch: If you do not interrupt the countdown, Siri automatically sends the message as soon as the timer expires, playing the standard outgoing message chime.
How to Enable Automatically Send Messages
To turn off the verbal confirmation requirement in iOS 16, configure the setting directly in your iPhone's preferences:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap Siri & Search.
- Select Automatically Send Messages.
- Toggle the switch next to Automatically Send Messages to the On position.
Managing Headphone and CarPlay Settings
Once enabled, iOS 16 provides additional controls allowing you to customize how the feature behaves depending on connected accessories:
- Headphones: Toggle this option if you want Siri to send messages automatically while using AirPods or compatible Beats headphones. When active, Siri reads the message back into your ears before sending it, unless you quickly say "Stop."
- CarPlay: Toggle this option to bypass the confirmation prompt while connected to your vehicle's CarPlay system, reducing driver distraction.
