How to Use Quick Note in Control Center on iOS 16
Apple expanded its Quick Note feature to the iPhone in iOS 16, allowing users to jot down ideas, save links, and capture information instantly from anywhere on their device. By integrating Quick Note directly into the Control Center, iOS 16 provides one-tap access to a lightweight note window without requiring you to navigate away from your active app or open the full Notes application.
Adding Quick Note to Control Center
Before you can use the toggle, you must add it to your active Control Center controls:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone running iOS 16.
- Tap Control Center.
- Scroll down to the More Controls section.
- Tap the green plus (+) icon next to Quick Note.
Once added, the Quick Note icon (a small notepad with a pencil) will appear among your active Control Center toggles.
How the Quick Note Toggle Operates
Once configured, the Quick Note toggle provides system-wide convenience:
- Instant Note Creation: Swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen (or swipe up from the bottom on iPhones with a Home button) to open Control Center, then tap the Quick Note icon. A new note composer slides up over your current screen immediately.
- Contextual Link Capture: If you open Quick Note while viewing a webpage in Safari, an image in Photos, or content in other supported apps, a prompt will often appear allowing you to add a direct link to that content with a single tap.
- Seamless Saving: When you finish typing, tap Save in the top-right corner. The composer dismisses, returning you directly to whatever you were doing. All saved entries automatically sync to a dedicated "Quick Notes" folder inside the default Notes app.
Lock Screen Access and Security Settings
The toggle also functions from the iPhone Lock Screen, provided Control Center access while locked is enabled.
You can configure how the Quick Note toggle behaves from the Lock Screen:
- Go to Settings > Notes.
- Scroll down and select Access Notes from Lock Screen.
- Choose either Always Create New Note for privacy, or Resume Last Note to continue working on an ongoing thought within a set time frame.
