How to Share a Tab Group in iOS 16 Safari
Apple introduced Shared Tab Groups in iOS 16, allowing users to collaborate on web browsing sessions in real time with friends, family, or coworkers. This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough on how to set up and invite collaborators to a Shared Tab Group on your iPhone using Safari.
Prerequisites Before Sharing
To share a Tab Group, ensure the following requirements are met:
- Your iPhone must be running iOS 16 or later.
- Your collaborators must also have devices running iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura, or later.
- iCloud Safari syncing must be turned on. Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Show All and verify that Safari is toggled on.
How to Invite Collaborators to a Tab Group
- Open Safari on your iPhone.
- Tap the Tabs icon (two overlapping squares) in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Tap the center button at the bottom of the screen (it will show your current tab count or group name) to display the Tab Groups menu.
- Select an existing Tab Group or create a new one by tapping New Empty Tab Group or New Tab Group from [X] Tabs.
- Once inside the Tab Group, tap the Share button (a square with an upward arrow) located in the upper-right corner of the tab overview screen.
- Choose how you want to send the invitation. You can select a recent contact or choose an app such as Messages or Mail.
- Send the invitation.
Once the recipient accepts the invite, they will have access to the Tab Group. Everyone in the group can view, add, or remove tabs in real time.
Managing Collaborators
To manage members or add more participants after the group is shared:
- Tap the Tabs icon in Safari while viewing the Shared Tab Group.
- Tap the Manage Shared Tab Group icon (showing the profile icons of participants) at the top of the screen.
- From this menu, you can tap Share with More People to invite additional users, or tap Stop Sharing to revoke access for all collaborators.
