How to Schedule an Email in iOS 16 Mail
Apple's iOS 16 update introduced a built-in scheduling feature to the native Mail app on iPhone, allowing users to delay delivery of their messages without third-party tools. This guide explains how to schedule an email to send at a specific date and time, as well as how to view, edit, or cancel a scheduled message before it goes out.
Steps to Schedule an Email
- Open the Mail app on your iPhone running iOS 16 or later.
- Compose a new email by tapping the compose icon, or reply to an existing thread.
- Fill in the recipient, subject line, and body text as normal.
- Touch and hold (long-press) the blue Send button (the upward-pointing arrow in the top-right corner).
- A pop-up menu will appear with preset scheduling options:
- Send Now
- Send 9:00 PM Tonight
- Send 8:00 AM Tomorrow
- Send Later...
- Tap Send Later... to choose a custom delivery time.
- Select the desired date on the calendar and set the exact time using the clock picker.
- Tap Done in the top-right corner to confirm.
The email will now be queued for delivery at your chosen time.
How to Edit or Cancel a Scheduled Email
If you need to change the delivery time or delete a scheduled message, you can manage it directly from your mailboxes:
- In the Mail app, navigate back to the main Mailboxes list.
- Tap the Send Later mailbox (this folder only appears when you have emails queued to send).
- Tap the email you want to modify.
- To change the delivery time, tap Edit next to the scheduled time at the top of the message, set a new time, and tap Done.
- To cancel the scheduled send entirely, swipe left on the email in the list and tap the Trash icon, or open the email and delete it.
