How to Manage Apple Pay Subscriptions in iOS 16

Managing recurring subscriptions and merchant authorizations paid through Apple Pay in iOS 16 is a straightforward process handled directly on your iPhone. This guide explains how to view, manage, and cancel recurring merchant payments authorized through Apple Pay using the Wallet app, as well as how to manage standard in-app subscriptions tied to your Apple ID.

Managing Recurring Apple Pay Payments in the Wallet App

iOS 16 introduced the ability to view and manage recurring payment authorizations—such as subscriptions and automatic reloads paid directly via Apple Pay on websites or third-party apps—directly inside the Wallet app.

  1. Open the Wallet app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap the credit or debit card you used to authorize the recurring payment.
  3. Tap the More button (the three dots in the upper-right corner), then select Card Details.
  4. Scroll down and tap Connected Merchants or Recurring Payments (depending on the merchant integration).
  5. Select the merchant whose subscription or recurring payment you want to manage.
  6. To stop future charges from using this card token, tap Stop Using Apple Pay or Revoke Authorization.

Note: Revoking a payment token in Apple Pay stops future charges on that card, but it may not automatically cancel the service contract with the merchant. You may still need to log into the merchant's website or app to officially cancel the service.

Managing Subscriptions Tied to Your Apple ID

If the subscription was purchased inside an iOS app downloaded from the App Store and billed through Apple Pay via your Apple ID, it is handled in your account settings.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap your name at the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Subscriptions.
  4. Under the Active section, tap the subscription you want to modify.
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription (or Cancel Free Trial).
  6. Tap Confirm to complete the cancellation.

Once cancelled, you will retain access to the service until the end of the current billing cycle.
