How to Customize Home Screen in iOS 16 Work Focus
In iOS 16, Apple expanded its Focus mode capabilities by allowing users to tailor their iPhone Home Screen specifically for productivity. The Work Focus feature lets you hide distracting apps, display only work-related pages, silence notification badges, and link dedicated Lock Screens to your layout. By dynamically replacing your everyday interface with a streamlined, task-oriented setup, iOS 16 ensures that social media and games remain out of sight during your working hours.
Choosing Custom Home Screen Pages
When configuring a Work Focus in iOS 16, you can designate which Home Screen pages appear while the mode is active.
- Open Settings and select Focus.
- Tap Work.
- Under the Customize Screens section, select Choose under the Home Screen preview.
- You can either select from your existing Home Screen pages or choose from suggested pages curated by iOS 16 that feature work-centric apps like Mail, Calendar, Reminders, and Slack.
- Tap Done to save your selection.
Once enabled, any unselected Home Screen pages are completely hidden from view. You can still access hidden apps via the App Library or Spotlight search, but they will not clutter your primary interface.
Linking Lock Screens to Home Screens
iOS 16 introduces paired Lock Screen and Home Screen configurations. When setting up your Work Focus, you can tie a minimalist or work-themed Lock Screen—complete with productivity widgets like upcoming meetings or battery levels—directly to your custom Home Screen. Switching to your Work Lock Screen automatically triggers the linked Work Home Screen, creating a unified workspace.
Silencing App Notification Badges
To eliminate the urge to check personal apps, iOS 16 allows you to hide notification badges on the Home Screen during a Work Focus.
- In the Work Focus settings menu, tap Options.
- Toggle on Hide Notification Badges.
This setting removes the red counters on app icons across your visible pages, ensuring you are not distracted by unread alerts from personal messaging apps or entertainment platforms.
Using Focus Filters
iOS 16 also includes Focus Filters, which extend Home Screen customization into the apps themselves. You can configure filters to show only your work-specific accounts in apps like Apple Mail, Calendar, Messages, and Safari. When you open an app from your Work Home Screen, you only see data relevant to your job, keeping personal communications separate until the Focus mode turns off.
