How to Add Stops in Apple Maps Using Siri in iOS 16
In iOS 16, Apple introduced multi-stop routing to Apple Maps, allowing users to add up to 15 stops along an active journey. By using Siri voice commands, you can safely search for and insert pit stops—such as gas stations, coffee shops, or specific addresses—directly into your active navigation without touching your iPhone or interrupting your overall route.
Prerequisites
Before using this feature, ensure that:
- Your iPhone is running iOS 16 or later.
- Siri is enabled in Settings > Siri & Search.
- You have already started turn-by-turn navigation in Apple Maps.
How to Add a Stop with Siri During Navigation
- Initiate Navigation: Start turn-by-turn directions to your final destination as usual in Apple Maps.
- Activate Siri: Say "Hey Siri" or press and hold the Side button (or use your car's steering wheel controls if connected to CarPlay).
- State Your Request: Ask Siri to add a stop along
your route using natural language. For example:
- "Add a stop for coffee."
- "Add a stop at the nearest gas station."
- "Add a stop for lunch."
- "Add a stop to [Specific Address or Business Name]."
- Select a Location: Siri will display search results
directly on the screen or read them aloud.
- If multiple options appear, select your preferred location on-screen or tell Siri which option to pick (e.g., "The first one").
- If you requested a specific location, Siri will often confirm the addition automatically.
- Resume Navigation: Apple Maps will recalculate the route to guide you to the newly added stop first. Once you arrive at the stop, navigation will automatically cue up directions to your subsequent destination or final endpoint.
Useful Voice Commands
- Find categories: "Hey Siri, find gas stations along my route."
- Specific brands: "Hey Siri, add a stop at Starbucks."
- Remove a stop: "Hey Siri, remove the next stop from my route."
