New iOS 15 Memoji Wardrobe Customization Features

Apple's iOS 15 update introduced significant enhancements to Memoji, highlighted by the debut of a dedicated wardrobe section alongside expanded accessories and inclusive representation options. Users can now personalize their digital avatars with over 40 distinct outfit choices, multi-colored headwear, unique eye color combinations, and specialized accessibility gear. This update allows iPhone and iPad users to express their style, mood, and identity with greater precision across Messages, FaceTime, and supported third-party apps.

The New Memoji Wardrobe

Prior to iOS 15, Memoji clothing was largely limited to headwear and upper-chest silhouettes. The iOS 15 update introduced a fully realized clothing section with the following features:

  • Over 40 Outfit Choices: Users can select from more than 40 different outfits designed to reflect various styles, moods, and seasons. The collection ranges from casual everyday wear, like hoodies and t-shirts, to business attire, athletic gear, and formal wear.
  • Custom Color Palettes: Each outfit can be customized with up to three distinct colors, allowing users to coordinate their primary clothing, accents, and patterns.

Multi-Colored Headwear

Headwear options received a major functional upgrade with the addition of multi-color customization:

  • Team and University Colors: Users can choose up to three different colors on select hats and caps, making it possible to represent favorite sports teams, universities, or personal style palettes.
  • Expanded Styles: The library of headwear includes new beanies, baseball caps, turbans, swim caps, and cultural head coverings.

New Glasses and Frame Options

The eyewear category expanded with new designs and color configurations:

  • New Frame Shapes: Users can choose from three new glasses styles, including heart shapes, star shapes, and retro frames.
  • Dual-Tone Customization: Users can independently customize the color of the frames and the tint of the lenses.

Inclusive Representation and Accessibility

Apple expanded its accessibility features within the Memoji creator to better represent all users:

  • Cochlear Implants: Users can add cochlear implants to one or both ears.
  • Oxygen Tubes: An option to add nasal oxygen tubes across the face.
  • Soft Helmets: Headwear now includes protective soft helmets.
  • Heterochromia: Users can select a different color for the left and right eye to represent heterochromia.
