New iOS 15 Memoji Customization Options

Apple expanded its personalization capabilities in iOS 15 by introducing a broad selection of new Memoji features, outfits, and inclusive accessories. This update focused on diversity, self-expression, and accessibility, enabling users to create digital avatars that more accurately reflect their real-world appearance and style. The additions include independent eye coloring, varied clothing options, new eyewear shapes, multicolored headwear, and medical accessories.

Heterochromia for Eye Customization

Users can now set different colors for each eye to represent heterochromia. When customizing the eyes in the Memoji editor, you can select the left and right eyes separately, choosing distinct hues and shades for each iris.

Expanded Eyewear Styles and Lens Colors

iOS 15 added several new glasses frames to the eyewear section, including heart-shaped, star, and retro designs. In addition to selecting frame styles and colors, users can also independently customize the color and tint of the lenses.

Inclusive Accessibility Accessories

To better represent users with diverse medical needs and disabilities, iOS 15 introduced three major accessibility options:

  • Cochlear Implants: Wearable on one or both ears with customizable hardware colors.
  • Oxygen Tubes: Positioned across the face and around the ears.
  • Soft Helmets: Protective headwear available under the headwear category in multiple colors.

Wardrobe and Outfits

Prior to iOS 15, Memoji only featured customizable upper-body garments in basic views. The update introduced over 40 distinct outfit choices, including casual shirts, dresses, athletic wear, and formal suits. Users can select up to three different colors for a single outfit to personalize the primary fabric, trim, and accents.

Multicolored Headwear

The headwear category was updated to support two-tone color schemes. Users can assign two different colors to hats, beanies, and caps, allowing them to recreate the look of favorite sports teams, colleges, or distinct fashion patterns.
