New iOS 15 Memoji Customization Features

Apple expanded self-expression and inclusivity in iOS 15 by introducing a broad range of new Memoji customization tools and expressive stickers. This update provides users with greater control over their digital avatars, adding diverse clothing options, accessibility representations, distinct eye colors, expanded accessories, and brand-new sticker poses. Below is a detailed breakdown of all the customization tools introduced to the Memoji library with iOS 15.

Expanded Clothing and Outfits

Users can customize their Memoji with more than 40 outfit choices reflecting various styles, professions, and seasons. The update allows users to select up to three different colors for their clothing, enabling customized primary, secondary, and accent shades on shirts, jackets, and casual wear.

Accessibility Options

To promote inclusive representation, iOS 15 introduced three distinct accessibility features for Memoji:

  • Cochlear Implants: Users can add cochlear implants with customizable colors.
  • Oxygen Tubes: An option to add nasal oxygen cannulas to the avatar's face.
  • Soft Helmets: Protective headwear options designed for safety and medical needs.

Heterochromia (Different Eye Colors)

Memoji customization in iOS 15 allows users to set different colors for the left and right eyes, accurately representing heterochromia.

Multicolor Headwear and New Glasses

The headwear selection was upgraded to support two distinct colors on select hats, caps, and bandanas, allowing for sports team representations or personal color combinations. Additionally, new eyewear styles were introduced, including retro shapes, heart frames, and star-shaped glasses, complete with the ability to tint the lenses independently from the frames.

New Memoji Stickers

Alongside the physical avatar updates, Apple expanded the standard Memoji sticker library with nine new expressive poses and reactions:

  • A shaka (hang loose) hand sign
  • A welcoming hand wave
  • A lightbulb moment representing an idea
  • Crossed fingers for luck
  • A facepalm gesture
  • A high five
  • A smiling face surrounded by hearts
  • A sweating, relieved expression
  • A yawning face
