iOS 15 Weather App Temperature Graph Updates

Apple overhauled its native Weather app in iOS 15, introducing modern design elements and visual data representations. Among the most notable changes is the redesigned 10-day forecast, which replaced plain text lists with dynamic horizontal temperature trend graphs. These graphs provide users with an immediate, visual comparison of daily temperature ranges, current conditions, and shifting weather patterns over the coming week.

Visual Horizontal Bar Graphs

Instead of simply listing daily high and low temperatures numerically, iOS 15 introduced horizontal colored bars alongside the numerical values for each day in the 10-day forecast. These bars visually illustrate the spread between the day's predicted minimum and maximum temperatures, allowing users to understand the expected temperature fluctuation at a glance.

Color-Coded Temperature Gradients

The temperature bars are color-coded based on the actual temperature range expected:

  • Deep Blue and Light Blue: Represent freezing and cold temperatures.
  • Green and Yellow: Indicate mild to moderate temperatures.
  • Orange and Red: Signify hot and extreme heat conditions.

These dynamic color gradients change according to local conditions, giving an instant impression of whether a day will feel cool, comfortable, or hot without needing to check the exact degrees.

Unified 10-Day Relative Scaling

The bars are scaled relatively across the entire 10-day forecast rather than individually. The left edge of the overall graph area corresponds to the lowest temperature predicted over the entire 10-day period, while the right edge represents the highest. Because the bars shift horizontally depending on where that day's range falls within the 10-day spectrum, users can immediately spot upcoming warming or cooling trends.

Real-Time Temperature Indicator Dot

On the forecast bar for the current day, iOS 15 added a small, luminous white dot. This dot marks the current temperature's position relative to the forecasted low and high for that day, showing how close the current condition is to the daily peak or trough.

Full-Screen Temperature Maps

Complementing the forecast trend bars, iOS 15 added full-screen animated temperature maps. Accessible directly below the 10-day forecast, this interactive heat map visually displays broad temperature gradients and regional trends with live, panning visual representations.
