iOS 15 Reduce White Point Display Settings

Apple’s iOS 15 provides dedicated accessibility options to reduce the intensity of bright colors on your screen through the Reduce White Point feature. This setting allows users to lower display glare beyond standard brightness limits, making it ideal for low-light environments and reducing eye strain. This guide explains how to access, adjust, and automate Reduce White Point within iOS 15.

Locating Reduce White Point in iOS 15

While Reduce White Point is an established accessibility tool, iOS 15 organizes it within the centralized display accessibility preferences.

To access the setting:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Scroll down and tap Accessibility.
  3. Select Display & Text Size.
  4. Scroll toward the bottom to find the Reduce White Point toggle.

Adjusting Intensity Levels

Once the Reduce White Point toggle is switched to the on position, an intensity slider appears beneath it:

  • The slider ranges from 25% to 100%.
  • At 25%, the display subtly tones down harsh whites and vibrant highlights.
  • Moving the slider closer to 100% significantly dims the peak luminance across all system menus, media, and third-party apps, allowing brightness to fall well below the standard hardware slider's minimum threshold.

Quick Access and Automation in iOS 15

iOS 15 introduced greater integration with Focus modes and system automations, allowing users to control white point levels dynamically without navigating deep into Settings:

  • Accessibility Shortcut: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut and select Reduce White Point. Once configured, triple-clicking the Side button (or Home button) immediately toggles the feature on or off.
  • Control Center Integration: Add the Accessibility Shortcuts tile via Settings > Control Center to adjust white point levels directly from a swipe.
  • Shortcuts and Focus Modes: iOS 15 allows you to build personal automations in the Shortcuts app using the "Set Reduce White Point" action. This lets you link reduced white point levels directly to your iOS 15 Sleep Focus or trigger it automatically at sunset.
