iOS 15 Game Center Profile and Friends List Changes
Apple updated Game Center in iOS 15 with a modernized interface aimed at making the platform more social, accessible, and integrated across the operating system. These changes streamlined the user profile, overhauled the friends list layout, and added new ways to discover what contacts are playing directly from the Home Screen and the App Store.
Updated Friends List Layout
The friends list in iOS 15 received a cleaner, card-based layout within both the Settings menu and Game Center-compatible games.
- Activity Tracking: The friends list now prominently displays what games your contacts are currently playing or have played recently, moving away from the static text lists of previous versions.
- Simplified Friend Requests: Pending friend requests were given dedicated placement at the top of the friends section, allowing users to accept or decline invites without navigating through secondary menus.
- Contact Integration: Enhanced integration with the Contacts app makes it easier to find and invite people you know via their phone numbers or email addresses.
Redesigned Profile Interface
The Game Center profile in iOS 15 was refreshed to provide faster access to personal statistics, settings, and personalization options.
- Memoji and Avatar Prominence: Profiles place a larger focus on custom Memoji avatars, displaying them alongside the user's nickname in a unified header card.
- Consolidated Achievement Views: Achievements and game history were reorganized into scrollable cards, making it quicker to browse high scores and unlocked milestones per title.
- Privacy Controls: Profile privacy settings—such as toggles for allowing friend requests and setting profile visibility to "Public," "Friends Only," or "Only You"—were placed directly within the main profile view for easier management.
New Game Center Widgets
Alongside the internal profile updates, iOS 15 introduced dedicated Game Center widgets that extend the profile and friends list to the Home Screen:
- Friends Are Playing: Displays real-time game activity from your friends list directly on your Home Screen. Tapping a game opens its App Store page or launches the app if already installed.
- Continue Playing: A personal widget showing your recently played Game Center titles, allowing you to jump back into games without searching the App Library.
