iOS 15 Contacts App: New Contact Card Features
Apple’s iOS 15 update introduced several meaningful upgrades to the Contacts app, focusing on deeper communication integration and system-wide connectivity. This guide details the core updates brought to individual contact cards, including the "Shared with You" section, Focus status alerts, and refreshed communication shortcuts.
Shared with You Section
One of the most prominent additions to contact cards in iOS 15 is the "Shared with You" section. When a person sends links, photos, music, or news stories through the Messages app, those items automatically populate directly within their contact card. Users can tap on these items to open them in their respective native apps or jump directly back to the original message thread.
Focus Status Indicators
Contact cards in iOS 15 integrate directly with Apple's Focus modes. If a contact has a Focus mode enabled (such as Do Not Disturb, Personal, or Work) and chooses to share their status, a banner appears on their contact card notifying you that their notifications are silenced. This helps users understand why a recipient might not reply immediately before sending a message or placing a call.
Redesigned Quick Actions and FaceTime Links
The top row of quick-action buttons—Message, Call, FaceTime, and Mail—received a visual and functional refresh:
- FaceTime Links: Users can create and copy a web-accessible FaceTime link directly from a contact card, allowing non-Apple users (Windows and Android) to join scheduled calls.
- Streamlined Buttons: Action icons are larger, rounded, and dynamically adapt based on available communication methods and third-party apps like WhatsApp or Skype.
Enriched Spotlight Integration
While not exclusive to the standalone Contacts app, Spotlight search in iOS 15 displays the full, interactive contact card directly in search results. Searching for a contact surface their card along with recent conversations, Shared with You files, shared locations via Find My, and relevant calendar events, all accessible without opening the Contacts application.
