iOS 15 Contact Card Share Sheet Changes

Apple introduced notable interface and privacy-focused refinements to contact cards and the share sheet system in iOS 15. This update replaced the flat legacy design with modern inset grouped sections, revamped the quick-action communication controls, and introduced granular controls that allow users to select specific pieces of information before sharing a contact card.

Selective Field Sharing

The most significant functional enhancement to contact sharing in iOS 15 is granular data selection. In previous iOS versions, tapping "Share Contact" sent the entire vCard containing all saved phone numbers, emails, addresses, and private notes. In iOS 15, tapping the share option opens an interactive card where users can tap specific data fields to include or exclude them. This allows users to share a work email or mobile number while keeping home addresses or personal notes private.

Inset Grouped Layout

The visual presentation of the contact card shifted from full-width, edge-to-edge dividing lines to an inset grouped design. Information is organized into distinct rounded-corner cards floating against the system background. This structure mirrors the aesthetic updates seen across the iOS 15 Settings app and Apple Maps, improving readability and separating distinct categories of information such as phone, email, addresses, and social profiles.

Redesigned Quick-Action Buttons

Directly beneath the contact's name and photo, the primary communication shortcuts—Message, Call, Video (FaceTime), and Mail—were updated. The buttons were enlarged into distinct, rounded pill-shaped containers with higher-contrast iconography. When multiple phone numbers or communication channels are available, tapping and holding these buttons triggers streamlined drop-down menus directly on the card rather than navigating to a separate screen.

System Share Sheet Refinements

When exporting a contact card, the native iOS 15 share sheet presents an updated layout:

  • AirDrop and Message Suggestions: The top row of the share sheet features intelligent sharing suggestions that display contact avatars combined with small app icons (such as Messages or WhatsApp), indicating the exact route the contact card will take.
  • Streamlined Action List: Below the sharing targets, system actions appear as a clean, rounded list with standardized iconography, removing the older multi-tiered row layout found in earlier iterations.
