iOS 15 Apple Fitness+ Features and Updates

With the release of iOS 15, Apple introduced significant enhancements to its Fitness+ subscription service, transforming individual home workouts into shared, interactive experiences. Key updates included the debut of Group Workouts powered by SharePlay, the addition of Guided Meditation sessions, new workout modalities like Pilates, specialized seasonal programs, and expansion into 15 new international markets.

Group Workouts Powered by SharePlay

The most prominent update was the integration of SharePlay, allowing users to start a Fitness+ workout together directly through FaceTime. Supporting up to 32 participants simultaneously, the feature synchronized workout sessions across iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. Participants could see their own metrics on screen alongside alerts when friends closed their Activity rings or moved ahead on the Burn Bar, fostering community and friendly competition.

Guided Meditation

iOS 15 introduced Guided Meditation to help users build a regular mindfulness habit and improve overall mental well-being. Led by Fitness+ trainers, the sessions were organized around nine core themes: Purpose, Kindness, Gratitude, Awareness, Creativity, Wisdom, Calm, Focus, and Resilience. Meditations were accessible as five-, ten-, or twenty-minute video sessions, and could also be experienced as audio-only tracks within the Mindfulness app on Apple Watch.

New Workout Categories: Pilates and Snow Sports

To diversify training routines, Apple added Pilates as a dedicated workout type in iOS 15. These low-impact sessions focused on core strength, posture, and flexibility, often utilizing light resistance bands or basic floor mats. Additionally, Apple launched "Workouts to Get Ready for Snow Sports," a seasonal program designed with Olympic gold medalist Ted Ligety to build the endurance, balance, and leg strength necessary for skiing and snowboarding.

Global Expansion

Alongside the technical updates in iOS 15, Apple Fitness+ expanded its reach from English-speaking territories to 15 additional countries, including Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, and Spain. The service remained in its original English audio format but gained subtitles in six languages, broadening accessibility for global users.
