iOS 15 Apple Books Reading Goal Features

Apple introduced several meaningful enhancements to the reading goal tracker in the Books app with the release of iOS 15. Designed to help users build consistent reading habits, the update expanded the tracker's functionality beyond basic time-logging by introducing reading streaks, richer achievement sharing, and streamlined goal management directly within the Read Now tab.

Reading Streaks and Habit Tracking

The primary addition to the reading goal tracker in iOS 15 is the reading streak counter. Instead of only tracking minutes per day, the app now monitors consecutive days spent reading. Users can see their current streak, their longest streak to date, and visual markers indicating which days of the week or month they successfully met their daily targets.

Milestone Sharing

iOS 15 made reading achievements interactive by adding sharing capabilities. When you hit a daily reading goal, achieve a milestone streak (such as 5, 10, or 50 days in a row), or finish a book, the Books app generates a custom card. You can share these achievement cards directly to social media, Messages, or Mail to celebrate progress with friends.

Dedicated "Books Read" Annual Goal

Alongside the daily minute goal, iOS 15 enhanced the annual "Books Read" tracker. Users can set a target for the total number of books they want to complete in a calendar year. As titles are finished, the app automatically updates the total count, providing a clear visual representation of overall annual reading progress.

Streamlined "Read Now" Interface

The reading goal widget within the "Read Now" tab was redesigned for quicker access and easier adjustments. Tapping on the reading goal section displays an expanded dashboard where users can instantly view reading statistics, adjust their daily time goal, or manually log reading time if they read physical books or used an external device.
