How to Change Text Size Per App on iOS 15
With the release of iOS 15, Apple introduced the ability to adjust text size independently for individual applications, eliminating the need to apply a universal font size across the entire operating system. This article explains the new per-app display controls added in iOS 15, including the updated Control Center text toggle and the dedicated Per-App Settings menu in Accessibility.
The Dynamic Text Control Center Toggle
Prior to iOS 15, adjusting the text size in the Control Center changed the font scale globally for all supported apps and system menus. iOS 15 introduced a segmented selector directly inside the Control Center's Text Size control.
When you open the Text Size slider from the Control Center while inside an application, a toggle appears at the bottom of the screen with two options:
- [App Name] Only: Applies the chosen text scale solely to the active app.
- All Apps: Applies the text scale across the entire operating system.
To use this feature:
- Go to Settings > Control Center and ensure Text Size is added to your active controls.
- Open the application you want to customize.
- Open Control Center (swipe down from the top-right corner on modern iPhones, or swipe up from the bottom on home-button models).
- Tap the Text Size (AA) icon.
- Tap the button at the bottom corresponding to the current app to set the focus to [App Name] Only.
- Move the vertical slider up or down to set your preferred font size.
Per-App Accessibility Settings
In addition to the quick Control Center toggle, iOS 15 added a dedicated Per-App Settings hub inside Accessibility. This menu allows you to preconfigure permanent display and text settings for specific apps as well as the Home Screen.
To configure text size via Accessibility:
- Open Settings and tap Accessibility.
- Scroll to the bottom and select Per-App Settings.
- Tap Add App and choose the application you want to customize from the list.
- Tap the newly added app to reveal its custom display settings.
- Select Larger Text to adjust the Dynamic Type slider specifically for that application. You can also enable Larger Accessibility Sizes for an even wider range of font dimensions.
Alongside text scaling, this menu allows users to toggle Bold Text on an individual app basis without affecting system text elsewhere.
