Turn Off Do Not Disturb When Leaving Location on iOS 12
Apple introduced a dynamic feature in iOS 12 that allows you to temporarily silence notifications and calls until you leave your current geographic area. This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to enable this location-based Do Not Disturb setting directly from the iOS Control Center, as well as the necessary location permissions required for it to work properly.
How to Enable Location-Based Do Not Disturb
- Open the Control Center:
- On iPhone X or later, or an iPad running iOS 12, swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen.
- On iPhone 8 or earlier, swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.
- Access the Extended Options:
- Locate the Do Not Disturb icon (the crescent moon).
- Perform a 3D Touch (press firmly) or long-press on the moon icon to reveal the contextual menu.
- Select the Location Option:
- Tap Until I leave this location.
Once selected, the crescent moon icon will illuminate, and Do Not Disturb will stay active until your device detects that you have moved away from your current location, at which point it turns off automatically.
Required Settings for Location Detection

- Open Settings on your iOS device.
- Navigate to Privacy > Location Services.
- Ensure Location Services is toggled On.
- Scroll down and tap System Services.
- Ensure the toggle next to Location-Based Alerts is set to On.
