Set Weekend App Limits in iOS 12 Screen Time

Apple’s iOS 12 allows you to set different App Limits for weekdays and weekends using the Screen Time feature. While the initial setup screen applies a single time limit across every day of the week, a built-in customization menu lets you define individual daily durations for any selected category or specific app.

How to Set Different Limits for Weekdays and Weekends

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 12.
  2. Tap Screen Time.
  3. Select App Limits, then enter your Screen Time passcode if prompted.
  4. Tap Add Limit.
  5. Select the categories or specific apps you want to restrict (e.g., Social Networking, Games), then tap Next in the top-right corner.
  6. Beneath the timer wheel, tap Customize Days.
  7. Tap each weekday (Monday through Friday) and set your preferred weekday limit.
  8. Tap Saturday and Sunday individually to set a different, higher or lower time limit for the weekend.
  9. Tap Add in the top-right corner to save your changes.

Editing Existing App Limits

If you have already established an App Limit and want to split it between weekdays and weekends:

  1. Go to Settings > Screen Time > App Limits.
  2. Tap the existing category or app limit you wish to modify.
  3. Tap Time, then select Customize Days.
  4. Adjust the hours and minutes for each day of the week to distinguish your weekend allowances from your weekday allowances.
  5. Tap the back button to save your changes automatically.
