Manage FaceTime Caller ID Settings in iOS 12
Managing your FaceTime Caller ID in iOS 12 allows you to choose whether recipients see your phone number or your Apple ID email address when you call them. This guide walks you through the exact steps to locate your FaceTime settings, select your preferred Caller ID, and add alternative email addresses to customize how you appear on outgoing audio and video calls.
How to Change Your FaceTime Caller ID
To change the number or email address displayed when placing a FaceTime call:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Scroll down and select FaceTime.
- Scroll down to the section labeled Caller ID. (Note: This section only appears if you have more than one contact method enabled).
- Tap the phone number or email address you want to use as your outgoing Caller ID. A blue checkmark will appear next to your selected option.
How to Add a New Email Address for Caller ID
If the email address you want to use as your Caller ID is not listed, you can add it directly to your FaceTime account:
- Go to Settings > FaceTime.
- Under the section labeled You Can Be Reached By FaceTime At, tap Add Another Email....
- Enter the email address you want to associate with your Apple ID and tap Return.
- Check the inbox of that email address for a verification code from Apple.
- Enter the code when prompted on your device to verify the address.
- Once verified, scroll down to Caller ID and tap the newly added email address to set it as your primary outgoing identifier.
Important Notes for Multiple Devices
- Changes made to your FaceTime Caller ID on an iPhone do not automatically transfer to other devices, such as an iPad or Mac. You must configure the Caller ID settings individually on each device.
- The contact method you select as your Caller ID will also be automatically enabled under the "You Can Be Reached By FaceTime At" section, ensuring recipients can call you back using that same address or number.
