How to Set Custom FaceTime Ringtones on iOS 12
Assigning unique ringtones to specific contacts in iOS 12 is an effective way to immediately identify who is calling you on FaceTime without having to check your device's screen. Because FaceTime utilizes the default ringtone settings tied to your address book, you can easily customize tones for individual contacts directly through the built-in Contacts or Phone apps.
Steps to Set a Custom Ringtone for a FaceTime Contact
- Open the Contacts app on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 12. Alternatively, open the Phone app and tap the Contacts tab at the bottom.
- Scroll through your list or use the search bar to locate and select the contact you want to customize.
- Tap Edit in the top-right corner of the contact’s profile card.
- Scroll down to the Ringtone field (which usually displays "Default") and tap it.
- Browse the list of available alert sounds and tap a tone to preview it. A checkmark will appear next to the tone you select.
- (Optional) Tap Vibration at the top of the Ringtone menu if you also wish to assign a custom haptic pattern for that contact.
- Tap Done in the top-right corner of the Ringtone selection screen.
- Tap Done once more in the top-right corner of the contact card to save your changes.
Whenever this contact calls you via FaceTime Audio or FaceTime Video, your iOS 12 device will now play the customized ringtone you selected instead of the standard system alert sound.
