How to Reset or Delete Measurements in iOS 12
Apple introduced the built-in Measure app in iOS 12, utilizing augmented reality (AR) to turn your iPhone or iPad into a digital tape measure. While measuring objects is straightforward, mistakes happen, requiring you to remove incorrect points, clear entire 3D measurement boxes, or reset the canvas completely. This guide explains how to quickly undo individual points, delete measurement boxes, and reset the Measure app screen in iOS 12.
How to Undo the Last Measurement Point
If you placed a measurement point in the wrong location or want to remove the most recent line segment:
- Locate the Undo button (a curved counter-clockwise arrow) located near the top-left corner of the screen.
- Tap the Undo button once to delete the last placed point.
- Tap it repeatedly if you need to step backward through multiple points or recently drawn shapes.
How to Delete a Measurement Box or Shape
When measuring 2D rectangles or 3D boxes, the Measure app often automatically detects rectangular surfaces and places a measurement box around them:
- If you just placed or confirmed a measurement box automatically and want to remove it, tap the Undo button immediately.
- If the box is already locked in, tap the screen to view the measurement details, then use the Clear button (trash can icon) to remove the drawn shape from the viewfinder.
How to Reset All Measurements
When you want to start over from scratch or measure a completely new object:
- Look at the top-right corner of the Measure app interface.
- Tap the Clear button, represented by a Trash Can icon.
- All active measurements, lines, dimensions, and measurement boxes will instantly disappear from the screen, leaving a clean camera feed ready for new measurements.
