How to Edit Sharing Suggestions in iOS 12 Photos

Apple's iOS 12 introduced intelligent sharing suggestions in the Photos app, automatically grouping photos from events and recommending people to share them with based on facial recognition and location data. This guide explains how to customize these recommendations by selecting specific photos, altering the recipient list, or dismissing unwanted suggestions before sending an iCloud photo link.

Accessing Sharing Suggestions

  1. Open the Photos app on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 12.
  2. Tap the For You tab located at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll to the Sharing Suggestions section to view automated collections generated by the device.

Editing the Included Photos

  1. Tap the suggested collection you wish to edit.
  2. Tap Select in the upper-right corner of the thumbnail grid.
  3. Tap individual photos to deselect any pictures you do not wish to share (a blue checkmark indicates a photo is selected).
  4. Tap any unselected photos if you want to include them in the shared album.
  5. Tap Next in the top-right corner once you have finalized your image choices.

Editing the Suggested Recipients

  1. After tapping Next, the Photos app displays a list of recommended recipients detected in the images.
  2. To remove a suggested person, tap their name or the minus icon next to their contact bubble.
  3. To add someone who was not automatically detected, tap the Add (+) button or type their name, phone number, or email address into the recipient field.
  4. Once the recipient list is accurate, tap Share in Messages to send an iCloud link to the selected recipients.

Removing or Ignoring a Suggestion

If you do not want to share a suggested collection:

  1. Locate the suggestion in the For You tab.
  2. Tap and hold (or 3D Touch) the preview card.
  3. Select Ignore Sharing Suggestion from the menu, or swipe the card away to remove it from your recommendations.
