How to Deliver Notifications Quietly in iOS 12

Apple introduced the "Deliver Quietly" feature in iOS 12, allowing users to send app notifications directly to the Notification Center without interrupting daily activities. When enabled, these alerts bypass the Lock screen, mute sounds, disable banners, and prevent badge icons from appearing on app icons. This guide outlines how to enable and disable quiet notifications directly from your alerts or through system settings.

How to Turn On "Deliver Quietly"

You can adjust this setting immediately when an alert appears without navigating through the main Settings menu:

  1. Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Notification Center (or locate the notification on your Lock Screen).
  2. Swipe left over an alert or notification stack from the app you want to silence.
  3. Tap Manage.
  4. Select Deliver Quietly.

Once selected, all future notifications from that specific application will silently route straight to the Notification Center.

What Happens When Notifications Are Delivered Quietly?

When an application is set to deliver quietly:

  • Notification Center: Alerts remain visible only when you manually open Notification Center.
  • Lock Screen: Alerts will not show up on the Lock screen.
  • Banners: No pop-up banners will display while you are using your device.
  • Sounds & Haptics: The device will not chime or vibrate when an alert arrives.
  • Badges: App icon notification badges are automatically disabled.

How to Revert to Normal Notifications

If you want to receive sounds, banners, and Lock screen alerts again:

  1. Locate a notification from the app in the Notification Center.
  2. Swipe left and tap Manage.
  3. Tap Deliver Prominently.

Alternatively, you can manage this through the Settings app:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Notifications.
  3. Select the app from the list.
  4. Manually re-enable checkmarks for Lock Screen, Banners, Sounds, and Badges.
