How to Spell Check Text in CorelDRAW

This guide provides a straightforward walkthrough on how to find and correct spelling errors in CorelDRAW documents. By utilizing CorelDRAW's built-in Writing Tools, you can run a manual spell check on specific text blocks or your entire document, enable real-time spell checking, and configure custom dictionaries to ensure your graphic design projects remain professional and error-free.

Performing a Manual Spell Check

You can run a spell check on both Artistic Text and Paragraph Text using the main application menu or keyboard shortcuts.

  1. Select Your Text: Using the Pick Tool, select the specific text frame you want to check. If you want to check all text across the active page or document, deselect everything by clicking on an empty area of the canvas.
  2. Open the Spell Check Tool: Go to the top menu and select Text > Writing Tools > Spell Check... (or press Ctrl + F12 on your keyboard).
  3. Review Suggestions: The Writing Tools dialog box will appear, displaying any unrecognized words under the Not found field. Recommended alternatives will appear in the Suggestions list.
  4. Choose an Action:
    • Replace: Updates the current instance with the selected suggestion.
    • Replace All: Updates every occurrence of the misspelled word throughout the document.
    • Ignore: Skips the current instance without making changes.
    • Ignore All: Skips all instances of the word for the remainder of the session.
    • Add: Adds the word to your user dictionary so CorelDRAW recognizes it as correct in future checks.
  5. Complete the Check: Click Close once CorelDRAW confirms that the spell check is complete.

Enabling Real-Time Spell Checking

CorelDRAW includes a dynamic spell checker that highlights errors with a red wavy underline as you type.

  1. Open Tools from the top menu and select Options (or press Ctrl + J).
  2. In the options tree, navigate to CorelDRAW > Text > Spelling.
  3. Check the box labeled Perform automatic spell checking.
  4. Click OK to apply the settings.

When dynamic spell checking is active, you can right-click any word with a red underline to quickly select a suggested replacement, ignore the word, or add it to your personal dictionary.

Changing the Spell Check Language

If you are working with multilingual layouts, ensure the spell checker references the correct dictionary:

  1. Highlight the text you want to format using the Text Tool (F8).
  2. Open the Text docker by navigating to Window > Dockers > Text.
  3. Under the Character section, locate the Language drop-down menu and select your target language.
  4. Run the spell checker again to evaluate the text against the newly selected language dictionary.
