How to Search for Local CDR Assets in CorelDRAW
This article provides a direct guide on locating, browsing, and managing local CorelDRAW (.CDR) files stored on your computer using the built-in tools within CorelDRAW. By utilizing the Assets docker, you can quickly scan local directories, filter results specifically for CDR files, and insert them directly into your active design projects without manually opening external folders.
Step 1: Open the Assets Docker
To manage and find your local files, you need to open CorelDRAW’s centralized asset management panel:
- Launch CorelDRAW and open a new or existing document.
- In the top menu, go to Window > Dockers > Assets (labeled as CONNECT Content in some earlier versions).
- The Assets panel will appear on the right side of your workspace.
Step 2: Access Local Storage
Once the Assets docker is open, ensure you are searching your local drives rather than cloud repositories:
- At the top of the docker, select the Local and Network tab.
- Expand the folder tree to navigate through your system directories.
- To add a custom folder where your project files are stored, click the Add locations (or folder plus icon) button, browse to your target directory on your hard drive, and confirm the selection.
Step 3: Search and Filter for CDR Files
You can narrow down your local content to find specific CDR vector files instantly:
- Search Bar: Type relevant keywords, file names, or tags into the search box at the top of the docker and press Enter.
- Filter Options: Click the Filter icon next to the search bar.
- Under the file format filters, select CorelDRAW (CDR) to hide other formats like JPEG, PNG, or AI files.
- Adjust the sorting order (by name, date modified, or size) to locate recent revisions quickly.
Step 4: Import the CDR Asset
When you find the desired CDR asset in the search results:
- Drag and Drop: Click and hold the thumbnail, then drag it directly onto your drawing canvas.
- Import Option: Right-click the thumbnail and select Import to place the vector elements precisely on your page, or choose Open to launch the asset as an independent document.
