How to Modify Transparency Points in CorelDRAW
Modifying fill transparency points in CorelDRAW allows you to create smooth fades, custom gradients, and advanced shading effects across vector shapes and bitmaps. By adjusting the interactive nodes on an object’s transparency path, you can control the exact angle, opacity levels, and transition rates of a fill. This guide walks you through locating the Transparency tool, manipulating transparency points, and adding or removing nodes for precise design control.
Step 1: Select the Object and Activate the Transparency Tool
- Choose the Pick tool from the toolbox and click on the object you want to adjust.
- Click the Transparency tool in the toolbox (represented by a checkerboard or wine glass icon, depending on your version).
Step 2: Apply a Fountain Transparency
To edit multiple transparency points, the object must use a gradient-based transparency rather than a flat, uniform one.
- Go to the Property Bar at the top of the workspace.
- Click the Fountain transparency icon.
- An interactive vector line with control points will appear over your selected object.
Step 3: Modify the Transparency Points (Nodes)
The interactive line consists of starting and ending nodes connected by a directional path:
- Change Opacity Values: Click directly on an end node. Adjust the opacity by moving the Node Transparency slider on the Property Bar, or click a shade from the grayscale palette (black represents 100% opacity, white represents 0% opacity).
- Reposition Points: Click and drag any node to change the direction, angle, or length of the transparency transition.
- Shift the Midpoint: Locate the small diamond or slider bar between the two main nodes. Drag it along the line to shift where the transition between the two opacity values begins and ends.
Step 4: Add or Remove Intermediate Points
For complex gradients requiring multiple levels of fading:
- Add a Point: Double-click anywhere along the dotted path between the starting and ending nodes. A new node will appear. Select it and assign a custom opacity value using the slider on the Property Bar.
- Remove a Point: Click an intermediate node to select it and press the Delete key on your keyboard, or simply double-click the intermediate node to remove it instantly.
