How to Group and Ungroup Objects in CorelDRAW

Grouping objects in CorelDRAW allows you to combine multiple design elements so they can be moved, transformed, and formatted together as a single unit without changing their individual shapes. This guide explains how to quickly group, ungroup, and edit multiple objects using standard menu commands, the property bar, and convenient keyboard shortcuts.

How to Group Objects

To combine two or more objects into a single group:

  1. Select the Pick tool from the toolbox.
  2. Select all the objects you want to group by dragging a marquee around them, or hold down the Shift key and click each object individually.
  3. Group the selected elements using one of the following methods:
    • Keyboard Shortcut: Press Ctrl + G.
    • Menu Bar: Go to Object > Group > Group Objects.
    • Property Bar: Click the Group Objects icon on the property bar at the top of the workspace.
    • Right-Click: Right-click the selected objects and choose Group from the context menu.

Once grouped, any move, scale, or rotation applied to the group will affect all member objects simultaneously.

How to Ungroup Objects

To separate a grouped set back into individual, independent objects:

  1. Select the grouped object using the Pick tool.
  2. Ungroup the elements using one of the following methods:
    • Keyboard Shortcut: Press Ctrl + U.
    • Menu Bar: Go to Object > Group > Ungroup Objects.
    • Property Bar: Click the Ungroup Objects icon.
    • Right-Click: Right-click the group and select Ungroup.

This command ungroups only the top level of the selected group.

How to Ungroup All Objects

If your design contains nested groups (groups within groups), you can break them all down into individual objects at once:

  1. Select the main group with the Pick tool.
  2. Go to Object > Group > Ungroup All Objects, or click the Ungroup All icon on the property bar.

This action dissolves every sub-group within the selection, leaving only separate individual shapes and paths.

Editing an Individual Object Within a Group

You do not need to ungroup elements to make minor adjustments to a single item:

  1. Select the Pick tool.
  2. Hold down the Ctrl key and click directly on the specific object inside the group.
  3. Modify its fill color, outline, size, or position.

When you click away, the modified object remains an integral part of the original group.
