How to Fit Text to a Path in CorelDRAW

Fitting text to a path in CorelDRAW allows you to wrap typography along circles, curves, and custom vector shapes for badges, logos, and creative layouts. This guide provides a straightforward walkthrough on how to attach text to any vector line, adjust its placement using the Property Bar, and separate the text from the shape once your design is complete.

Step 1: Create Your Path and Text

  1. Select a drawing tool, such as the Ellipse tool (F7), Freehand tool (F5), or Pen tool, and draw your desired path on the canvas.
  2. Select the Text tool (F8) and click anywhere on an empty part of the canvas to type your text.

Step 2: Apply the Text to the Path

  1. Switch to the Pick tool and select your text object.
  2. Go to the top menu and click Text > Fit Text to Path. Your cursor will transform into a black arrow with a curved line.
  3. Move the pointer over the path you created. A preview of the text following the curve will appear.
  4. Click once to snap the text onto the path.

Alternative Method: You can also fit text directly by selecting the Text tool (F8) and hovering the cursor over the edge of a vector path. When the cursor icon changes to an 'A' with a curved line underneath, click the path and begin typing directly along the curve.

Step 3: Adjust Text Position and Orientation

Once the text is attached, the Property Bar at the top of the screen displays interactive alignment controls:

  • Text Orientation: Choose how the letters tilt and angle relative to the curve.
  • Distance from Path: Adjust the numerical value to move the text closer to or further away from the path line.
  • Offset: Shift the text forward or backward along the length of the path.
  • Mirror Text: Use the horizontal and vertical mirror buttons to flip the text upside down or reverse its direction (ideal for placing text inside the bottom of a circle).
  • Manual Adjustment: Click and drag the red glyph handle located near the start of the text to reposition it freely along the line.

Step 4: Detach or Hide the Path

If you want the curved text to stand on its own without the underlying shape:

  1. Select the text and path group with the Pick tool.
  2. Go to Object > Break Text Apart (or press Ctrl + K). This separates the text from the path while preserving the curved shape of the typography.
  3. Click an empty area of the canvas to deselect, click the original path line, and press Delete.

Alternatively, if you want to keep the text dynamically editable on the path without showing the line, select only the path and right-click the "No Color" swatch (the square with an X) in your color palette to make the outline transparent.
